PRINTING GUIDE

How to print and test a restaurant QR code.

A clean preview on a laptop does not prove that a laminated table sign will scan. Printing, placement, reflections and viewing distance all matter.

Made for better service.

Prepare the file and its destination

  • Select the intended restaurant location and, for ordering, the correct table before exporting.
  • Keep a clear border four modules wide on all four sides, as specified by DENSO WAVE. A module is one of the small squares forming the code. Preserve that border and keep text outside it.
  • Keep the code square. Avoid stretching, cropping or covering parts with a logo.
  • Use a strong dark-to-light contrast. Decorative colors and reflective materials need a new scan test.
  • Choose an export suitable for the final print and avoid enlarging a low-resolution screenshot.

Check it in the setting where guests will use it

  1. 01

    Print one sample first

Use the final size and material. Place it at the expected viewing angle and check it under your restaurant’s lighting, including glare from protective covers.

  2. 02

Scan with more than one phone

Check focus and reading from a comfortable guest position. There is no single print size that guarantees reading at every distance and with every camera.

  3. 03

Read the destination, not only the scan result

Confirm the restaurant, location, language and table. Inspect signs during service and replace damaged or altered labels. Keep a readable alternative available.

Questions before you start

Can I reuse one table QR at every table?

A general menu QR can share the menu. A table-order QR identifies a particular table; place each table’s code at its matching table to avoid misidentifying orders.
